BUNNY MAMA'S TOP 10 BEST ADVICE....
10.
Get on the floor and get to know your bun. Get down on their level. Lay
flat out on your back or belly and let your bunny sniff, jump and hop
all over you. Spend time on the floor with him or her every day. As
time passes the bun will start to get friendlier and friendlier all the
time.
9. Buns don't like to be picked up and carried. So get on
down on the floor with them and don't pick them up or carry them it
stresses them.
8. Bun isn't interested in you on the floor?
Well just pretend to do about anything on the floor where they can see
you and over they will come to check you out. A small treat wouldn't
hurt for them either. Pretend to read the newspaper or magazine. Fold
clean clothes in front of them, bunnies are naturally curious and will
come over to check things out. Let him or her hop all around in the
clothes before you put them away.
7. Teach your bun to snuggle.
My rabbits know that snuggle means I will pet and kiss their backs and
talk sweetly to them. Well 2 out of 3 like it. Dino is not fond of
humans, he only loves Gracie his bonded wife. Just repeat over and over
"snuggle" while you are petting them in the same place in the house for a
few days in a row, multiple times per day. They will get it eventually
so be patient.
6. Give Treats - I give treats quite often but
you must give them a nutritious treat (not all bunny treats are good for
them) and you can break the treat in half or in pieces. Use the word
"treat" and once they understand they will coming hopping on over to you
pronto! It can be an easy way to get them into their room or a cage if
needed too - just say treat and mine would just about knock you over if
they could to get that treat. See treat page for more details on what
exactly to feed your buns as a treat - as they are all not healthy for
your little bunny.
5. Feed them the right diet of greens and the
right kind of hay (adult rabbits should eat Timothy Hay). See my page on
feeding your buns under Bunny Care and Health and then Food and Treats -
Yum! This is imperative so that your bun can live a long and healthy
life.
4. Keep it interesting. Give them things to play with and
to chew on. Empty toilet paper rolls or phone books (with yellow pages
not printed pages with color) can be great fun for your bun. An old
towel can be fun too for a bun, just make sure they dig at it and slide
it around on a bare floor and NOT eat or chew it. See my page called
Toys - Let's Have Fun under Bunny Care and Health from the left nav.
Keeping them busy will keep them out of trouble. An empty cardboard box
that has tape removed can be a fun hiding place. Rabbits like to be
hidden just as in nature they are hiding most of the time. So a box with
a hole cut into it is perfect. Make sure the bun does not eat and
digest too much of the cardboard as it could make them sick, but
normally doesn't.

3.
Invest some time and teach your buns some commands or words. It's not
hard. A few times a day repeat the same word or phrase teaching them
what the word means. Start with "kisses". Get on the floor and pet and
kiss your bun and keep saying "kisses, kisses, kisses" while you pet and
kiss them. It won't take them long to learn because most bunnies will
like you petting them as long as they are on the ground. Other commands
I use are food, treat, poop dish, up, Mama wants to show you something,
napper (means for them to go to their room), snuggle spot, house, good
girl and good boy.
2.Bring your bun into your living area. No
more garages, basements or bathrooms please! Rabbits are pets too and
you wouldn't keep a dog or cat in these places so please don't do that
to you bunny either. That bunny deserves your love and attention and to
be part of your family.
