KEEPING THEM COOL......

At this time of year it's imperative to keep your bunnies cool enough. Rabbits like it between 60 and 70 degrees F.  I was recently told my my new vet, that 73 degrees F is the max. If they get warmer then that, they can overheat and possibly die. With temps soaring and temperature records being broken you must take every precaution to keep you buns cooled down.

If you normally house them outside, YOU MUST BRING THEM IN. NO EXCUSES. Your bunnies count on you for love, food and shelter (from predators and from extreme temperatures). You must take every precaution to protect them for the heat -- hey they are sporting a fur coat remember.

If you house your bun in garage - please don't do this all the time. But in extreme heat, get them inside.

Think of where you can move them - a basement, a bathroom, even a good sized walk in closet would work.  Please spend some time re-thinking your bunny's situation. Please!

You can try and use fans to circulate air, buy an indoor air conditioner (hear they are pretty inexpensive now) water frozen in plastic liter bottles placed in their cage or hutch, or my favorite, place some leftover square ceramic tiles in their area to lay on. They can feel much cooler to the buns when they lay on them.

If you have an idea - let me know and maybe I'll will post it!  Thanks for taking care of the bunnies everywhere and keep cool!
